For Dentists: PerioMarker® aMMP-8 Rapid Test by Chlorhexamed®
The rapid test takes less than ten minutes and can be administered in dental offices by the assistant prior to consultation or even in the waiting room. A positive result indicates an elevated risk of periodontal disease, the need for a physician’s examination and clarification of the state of dental and overall health. Taking into account the “whole picture,” the physician will then decide on the necessary course of treatment, i.e., periodontal cleaning, better hygiene management or a more in-depth examination by a specialist. The PerioMarker aMMP-8 Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunoassay for the examination of mouth-rinse samples. The test is manufactured by dentognostics and sold to dentists by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare in Germany since summer 2010. |
The PerioMarker®
rapid test reveals hidden inflammations. It can identify the risk even before any clinical signs become visible, such as irreversible destruction of periodontal tissue and jawbones or loosening of teeth.

Inflammations and destructive collagenolytic activity in periodontal tissue cannot be accessed by the “bleeding on probing” method. The PerioMarker® rapid test reveals hidden inflammations and, hence, the risk of periodontal tissue destruction caused by the collagenase aMMP-8. It can identify the risk even before any clinical signs become visible, such as irreversible destruction of periodontal tissue and jawbones or loosening of teeth. In addition, inflamed oral tissue is an open door for oral bacteria to invade the bloodstream and, from there, cause serious harm.
