Like the PerioMarker®, the ORI aMMP-8 Rapid Test provides evidence of concealed oral inflammations and collagenolytic overreactions of the immune response in the mouth. It identifies pathogenic concentrations of the collagenase aMMP-8 in a mouth rinse specimen and can be performed in any doctor’s office or clinic. The result is delivered in less than 10 minutes. The test can be conducted  by the medical secretary or nurse during the patient's appointment. Increased aMMP-8 values suggest active inflammatory processes in the periodontium, such as gingivitis or periodontitis. If these inflammations remain untreated, they can result in the loss of teeth. Furthermore, they are considered a gateway for oral bacteria into the circulatory system, which entails a greater risk of chronic, subclinical bacteremia.

According to the international literature, periodontal inflammations can represent a significant risk factor for:

-  Diabetes mellitus
-  Premature births and low birth weight
-  Rheumatic illnesses
